The wildebeest migration is one of the most amazing wildlife events on Earth. Every year, millions of wildebeest move across the Serengeti and Masai Mara in search of fresh grazing and water. This movement creates a sight that travelers never forget.

While they have recolonized the crater floor since 2000, they are generally found in lower numbers than lions and hyenas, with sightings typically occurring on the open eastern grasslands.

They live in large social groups called clans, which are highly organized and led by dominant females. In the crater, hyenas are both skilled hunters and scavengers, often competing with lions for food. Thanks to the crater’s enclosed ecosystem and abundant prey, they have a steady food supply.
